O'Connell & Co practices US and international business and corporate and project finance law from from two locations in the US, as well as Hong Kong and Shanghai.

OUR PRACTICE

We counsel clients involved in all forms of business transactions including mergers, acquisitions and divestitures by American and overseas companies, and have handled a variety of public and private placements of debt and equity in the US and abroad. In addition, we have represented companies and individuals before the US Securities & Exchange Commission in connection with enforcement matters involving possible violations of US securities laws, and regularly counsel companies with regard to their obligations under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

OUR FOCUS

A primary focus of the Firm’s practice is assisting US companies with regard to their direct investment activities in Asia, especially the People’s Republic of China, including the Hong Kong SAR, and, on a selective basis, elsewhere in East Asia, and Southeast Asia. In addition to our corporate and project finance capabilities, we employ our real estate, construction, banking and commercial lending expertise.

We regularly represent US companies in connection with out-bound trade finance and direct investment matters, in the Middle East and the Caribbean, as well as Western European, British and Asian companies with regard to their activities in the US.

We maintain state-of-the-art, secure telecommunications capability which permits the seamless transmittal of documents and information between our offices and with our clients in the US, UK, Europe and Asia. In connection with our China practice, we have full support and capabilities in written Chinese and spoken capacities in Putonghua and Cantonese.

The Firm is actively involved in a variety of business and professional organisations, including the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, the Eastport Business Association, the Maryland-China Business Council and the Maryland World Trade Centre Institute.
