KEVIN M. O’CONNELL
Kevin M. O’Connell欧凯文is the Senior Partner of O’Connell and Co欧凯文律师事务所, and divides his time among the Firm’s Hong Kong, Washington and Annapolis offices, involved primarily in foreign direct investment and general business matters in the People’s Republic of China, including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Mr. O’Connell earned his A.B., with a concentration in Chinese history and politics, from Providence College. He holds the J.D. from the Washington College of Law of The American University and an LL.M. in Securities Regulation from Georgetown University Law Centre. He is admitted to the bar in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. In addition to his practice, Mr. O’Connell has served on the adjunct faculties of the University of Baltimore School of Law and the University of Maryland School of Law, teaching in the areas of international law and business and securities regulation. He has served as special counsel to the State of Maryland in Asia.
He is a regular lecturer on legal topics at the Institute for Global Chinese Affairs at the University of Maryland, one of 4 centres outside of China approved by the PRC government for the business training of senior Chinese public and private sector management personnel, and also lectures on Chinese legal and business topics to MBA students at Loyola College and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. O’Connell is frequently quoted on China matters in periodicals as varied as the Times of London, The China Daily, and Business Journals in Atlanta, Sacramento and Denver. His occasional reviews of China-focused books of fiction, history and business topics appear in the Asian Review of Books, published in Hong Kong.
In addition to being an Associate Member of the Law Society of Hong Kong, he is a member of LAWASIA, The District of Columbia Bar, and the Virginia State Bar. He is the Firm’s representative to The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, and serves or has recently served on the Board of Directors of the Asia Business Network of the Maryland World Trade Centre, the Board of Directors of the Maryland China-Business Council, and on the Advisory Board to the Centre of International and Comparative Law at the University of Baltimore School of Law.
